Game Overview

Teen Patti uses a standard 52-card deck with no jokers in the classic version, and usually 3 to 6 players. Each player gets three cards face down. The goal is either to have the best three-card hand at the end, or to be the last player left after everyone else folds.

Boot Amount and Dealing

Before the cards are dealt, every player puts a fixed starting stake called the boot into the pot. The dealer then deals three cards to each player, and betting starts from the player next to the dealer. In apps, the table's boot is shown before you join.

Blind vs Seen Players

Playing blind

A blind player bets without looking at their cards. Blind bets are usually smaller, and many players use blind play to put pressure on the table.

Playing seen (chaal)

Once you look at your cards you become a seen player. In the common rules, a seen player's bet must be at least double the current stake, and at most four times, depending on the table rules.

Moves During a Round

  • Chaal / Bet: stay in by matching or raising within the allowed range.
  • Pack / Fold: give up your hand and lose what you've already put in.
  • Side show: a seen player can ask the previous seen player to compare cards privately. The lower hand must fold. The other player can refuse.
  • Show: when only two players are left, one can pay to see both hands. The higher hand wins the pot.

Teen Patti Hand Rankings

From strongest to weakest:

  1. Trail (Trio / Set): three cards of the same rank. A-A-A is the best hand in the game.
  2. Pure Sequence (Straight Flush): three cards in a row, all the same suit, for example 7-8-9 of hearts.
  3. Sequence (Run): three cards in a row in mixed suits.
  4. Color (Flush): three cards of the same suit that are not in a row.
  5. Pair: two cards of the same rank.
  6. High Card: none of the above. The highest card decides.

Ties and sequences

A-K-Q is the highest sequence, with A-2-3 usually next. If two hands have the same ranking, compare the highest cards. Some tables use different tie-breaking rules, so check the table info in the app.

Popular Variations

Apps often include variations such as Joker (a random wild card), Muflis (lowest hand wins) and AK47 (aces, kings, fours and sevens are wild). Read each variation's rules in the app before you play it.

  • Folding weak hands early is a good habit, not a weakness.
  • Remember that no strategy guarantees a win. Luck plays a big part.
